width: 1088px; '><\/div>\n<div class=\"col gu16 pdl pdr\">\n<h2 style=\"margin-top: 24px;\">THE LAND<\/h2>\n<p>The terroir in Pommard produces red wine made exclusively from the Pinot Noir grape variety (309 acres of premiers crus on well-drained limestone clay and 524 acres of village appellation).<br \/>\nIts excellence was recognized in the Middle Ages and, in the 19th century, spread across the entire world.<br \/>\nStrength, elegance and unique aromas are characteristics of these deep red wines.<\/p>\n<h2>THE HISTOIRY<\/h2>\n<p>It is said that the name Pommard originates from Pomona, goddess of fruit and gardens, who was worshipped by Pommard\u2019s first inhabitants.<br \/>\nSimilarly to Beaune, the greatest number of vineyards in the 11th century belonged to dukes, princes and religious orders. In the 13th century, this land belonged to Alix de Vergy, wife of the duke of Burgundy, Eudes II.
